Vicious Vikings
Would you like to eat a “cauldron snake?”
Cauldron snake is a Viking name for a sausage spiced with thyme and garlic.
Hello my name is Jessica. Today I will go to talk about Vile Viking Food and,
The Savage Saxons and some facts of viking. First of all I will go to talk
about The Vile Viking Food. Well in these days the summer is long and the
winter is short yes. But in Vikings day the summer were often short, cold and
wet it’s just like Britain. Well whilst in winter it snowed from October to February.
Crops had little time to grow, and the poor farmers couldn’t eat food, because
they were so busy growing food till the winter comes. So the Vikings either
starved or went hunting.
Some of the food, like cheeses and smoked
meats, needed no cooking. Bread was baked and meats, roasted on a spit, or
baked in a deep pit covered with hot stones. Sometimes it was boiled in an iron
cauldron. Food and soup was served in a wooden bowls, and drink taken from cups
made from the horn such as reindeer or moose. The Vikings used knives, fingers
and sometimes very small spoons but in these days there weren't any forks.
What did Vikings drink?
Vikings drink beer and mead was drunk from the horns
of cattle. This was an art in itself because it is amazing how to make the cup
so interestingly. The another major problem was that the horn shape. The cup
you couldn’t be put down unless it was empty, because the cup is the shape of horn
so the beer or the juice will spill on the table. This is the picture that the Viking
used for the cup. The drink had to be drunk in one shot, hence a drunken Viking
was a common sight.
The Savage Saxon
The Vikings may have been called vicious but we have to remember that
they lived in harsh times. Their enemies British Isles, the Saxons, weren’t far
behind when it came to being cruelness.
At least
two English princes killed their brothers to win the throne of England. Throne
means to be the top or to be the king. Harold Godwinsson did it through battle
and Ethelred did it through murder. And they weren’t the worst!
Six Savage stories
There is six savage stories but I will going to tell you the part of
it. Well the King Edmund Ironside was a fierce fighter, fierce fighter means a
strong fighter. In one battle, an enemy
called Edric climbed a hill and waved a several head in the air. Surrender he
called to Edmund’s men. “this is the head of your leader Edmund!”Edmund was furious. He tore off his helmet to show his
men that he was still alive. He then flung his spear at Edric. He threw it so
hard that it bounced off Edric’s shield and went through two soldiers who were standing
right beside him. Well I think that they were really unlucky.
The second story is that Earl Godwin was
banished from England for disobeying the good king Edward. A year later Godwin
returned. He went to a dinner with the king and tired to be a bit of a creep.
People say I killed your brother, he told the king. But, if that is true, then
may god let this piece of bread choke me. A minute later Godwin was dead. He
had choked on the piece of bread. Well in my opinion that choking on a bread
could be a false but I believe that the god would’ve gave him a big punishment.
<Facts
of Vikings>
The
another name for Viking is norsemen. They were farmers, traders and seafaring
people who were from Sweden, Norway, and Demark, also known as Scandinavia. (Scandinavia
is the peninsula of Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Denmark) Mostly Vikings lived
along the coasts and they became well known for their longboats which allowed
them to travel great distance across the north Atlantic. Many believed that the
Vikings were the first Europians to visit North America.
The Viking
age is considered to be the period of time between the late eight century to
the mid eleventh. The earliest recorded raid by Vikings were Britain in AD 787and
the last was in 1066 at the battle of lastings when William the Conqueror
became king of England.
Before I researched about the Vikings I didn’t knew
any single thing about Viking but, after the research and the entire thing I
have done, I knew new thing about the Vikings.
